and get right to the meat of things.
The RG GP-01 Zephyranthes is coming along really smoothly- the rest of the white parts have been primed and after that there’s some grays to paint up and then it’ll be finished! It’s a nice change of place as a simple recolor instead of something that requires a lot of time and money to be put in to it. I’m also working on the MG Banshee ver. Ka but as per the rules of hobbylink.tv’s contest I’m unable to post the WIP stuff here- you can see the updates here though. I’ll be working on the MG Full Armor Unicorn alongside it though, and I’ll make an update with pictures proper and you can just pretend it’s the Final Battle Banshee.
I finally got myself together and calibrated my camera, as well as changing some settings to get some cleaner pictures. This means we’ll be getting back to figure reviews in addition to being able to photoshoot models properly once they’re done. Of course, all of my other hobbies have kind of taken a slight back seat to Final Fantasy 14 but I’ll try to grind out these models with my time in the morning instead of pushing onwards to 50.
Page up! Next up is the PG Strike Gundam which only has the arm armor and weapons left to paint. I still need to get a PG Skygrasper for Strike as well…
The new version of the PG Strike Freedom now has it’s own page! While there isn’t a lot of variety in the poses for this monstrous PG kit, I’m sure you guys will understand since I want to make sure I don’t scratch any of that chromed purple paint!
I’ve got the page for the Hayabusa Astray in the works, as well as an absolutely giant photo review of the Riobot Gurren Lagann which is mostly finished. If I remember to work on it you can probably expect to see pages for both the kit and the figure go up some time this week.
And these are just the teaser shots! As you can see, my lightbox isn’t big enough to accommodate this beast so I’m going to have to make something more sizable to properly photograph the absolutely gigantic wingspan of this kit. The custom base is still planned out, I haven’t started it yet due to work screwing up my paycheck and missing an entire day of pay. Overall I am MUCH happier with this PG SF build than the original rendition, my attention to detail was much better this time around and that’s reflected in the quality of the paintjob as well as the small touches like the pistons and painted whites. But this isn’t all I’ve been plugging away at in the last few months!
The Hayabusa Astray turned out great! I got a little feedback from some folks that led to some changes in the chrome and gloss black distribution and I think those changes made a good kit turn out even better. The TA turned out really awesome too, despite not painting the handle and other gunmetal bits. Titanium gold and pale gold came together nicely and while the weapon is flashy as hell compared to the rest of the ‘silent’ kit but considering the weapon itself is pretty loud due to it’s size I think it works alright.
Next up is repairing and finishing PG Wing Zero Custom! There’s a few bits I need to replace and I need to rewire the LEDs for the chest and get these rifles all wrapped up. The battery holders I got were too loarge to fit inside the rifles so it’s back to the drawing board for that.
Got new parts on the way for the silver and black parts on the wing armor because there are about 5 layers of paint on there that I’m just too lazy to attempt to strip and clean up. Got some new gold stickers as well since the ones that are on there are from almost a year ago. I tightened the hip joints with CA glue and this thing can stand up fairly well on it’s own now, but for it to stand up perfectly I’ll need to take it apart and tighten the ankle and chest joints as well.
Thanks to Reddit user Raid_PW I’ve got plans to make a custom display base for Strike Freedom to make up for the utterly terrible stand that comes with the kit. I think I’ve got it figured out how I’m going to make display parts for the DRAGOON units as well.
I’ll keep you posted.
New parts this time around! Thanks to Gaijin-Gunpla for the help with these. This time around I made sure not to utterly ruin the inside of the rifles making room for the LEDs. We went from this…
Isn’t it amazing what not being completely in the dark will do for how neatly your work goes? The rifles close no problem now, s it’s off to buy another switch and some LR44 batteries/battery holders to make sure these light up just fine. I might try to find some for the main body as well, just to ensure a solid connection and the brightest lights I can get.
Also, here is a much better picture of the Inferno Astray. Me-ow, right? This has given me a lot of ideas for my own Astray kits.
Even though they aren’t completely done, sometimes it’s just nice to sit back and look at how well some things are coming together. Work on models resumes Tuesday morning but since I’m starting my second-shift job this Monday that means things will probably slow down here a little bit. Have some PG pictures of the two I’ve gotten mostly worked on. These will be done shortly after the Zaku IIs and the Astray, but I still have PG Strike and PG Red Frame to work on too…I think I like working with PGs the most.
First things first: Gunpla.
Round two of Strike Freedom is going a lot better. I really like the way this has turned out much much more than the original iteration. I’m already setting to work on the wings which will with any luck be a lot less of a hassle the second time around.
The Zaku II commissionn squadron is going great as well, though the middle Zaku will be getting a few changes before the final assembly to further customize it and fit it in to a specialized role.
Ryo of the Wildfire has a page up now as well! While I try to take a good number of pictures of each figure with some things there isn’t really a need to take pictures of it- for example the base figures are all identical so going to in depth with those on each review isn’t really a priority of mine. In any case, swing by and check out the review!
Next update should see the Zaku IIs finished, another commission build started and progress on the Strike Freedom’s wings! I think it’s safe to say there will be another figure added as well but I think it’s time to break up the Armor Plus streak with a little bravery.
How many of you remember Ronin Warriors? After what feels like ages since the original release of the Armor Plus Ryo of the Wildfire, Bandai has finally remembered that they started this line and continued to produce more figures from this excellent line! Yours truly has bought all 5 of the figures released thusfar and the first review is up!
I had some help taking pictures for the Armor of Inferno figure and now the page is up! But figure reviews aren’t all I’ve working on…
I’ve been hard at work revamping this. You can see a WIP thread over at GAF for a full writeup on why I’m going back to this kit.
We’ve got a heatwave coming around (of course, it’s summer) so the heat and humidity slows things down a fair degree since I can only paint early in the morning or dusk but I’m still poking away on kits. Two commission works coming in this week, one an Astray kitbash and the other a Zaku II squad build which I’m really excited about. More on that when they arrive and get underway!
