Next step: Aftermarket parts, gloss coat, decals, final topcoat.

Let’s make this quick.

I have just over a week to see if I can make it to my goal of finishing this before the end of February. Let’s see if life permits that.

Let’s try making semi-frequent updates.

Don’t know how long this will last, but since a huge snowstorm is coming (it would seem that someone heard Z and I hating on winter) I might wind up with some time to actually work on my kits.

Still a decent amount of work left on ReZEL, the entire backpack and rifle but at least the blue is coming out nicely on it. I have to touch the crotch hook up (I’m not as bold as GaiGun to remove the whole thing) so the line doesn’t take a weird bend but so far so good.

The Astraea is finally starting to look like more than a random hodgepodge of suits though both of these projects will be stalling out as far as applying finer detail goes since I managed to run out of masking tape. Mental note: keep more of that stuff around in the future.

Dear winter,

You suck.

Still out of sorts, so I haven’t been doing much lately. V-Dash has a few pictures taken, but to be honest the kit itself is one of those that is great to work on but when it comes to posing and photos there’s only so much you can do especially if you don’t want to damage the paint or anything. I’ll try to have the page done soonish, sill.

ReZEL is coming along now, it’s time to start masking areas off to paint the blue accents and work on the backpack and weapons.

The Astraea kitbash has become a monster of it’s own. I think I’ve finally hit the point where it’s time to start puttying all the parts together and painting things. For the curious, the total sword count is 19 blades. In other gunpla news, I wound up with the RG Zaku II and MG Red Frame after going to Ohayocon this weekend…so much for not buying more kits. This must be how busterbeam feels.

Juggling act.

Progress is getting made on everything, despite mother nature’s best attempts to hold me up as much as possible.

V-Dash is coming along great. I still have all of the other weapons to build and paint, not to mention decal everything. But I think now that I have this much together I can really focus on ReZEL and the Astraea kitbash. I’m VERY pleased with how this turned out so far.

ReZEL’s parts are all prepped for priming and painting, just need to find the free time to get that done. I even have the primer mixed and ready thanks to having some Mr. Spare bottles now (another awesome purchase care of Sonar).

This thing has been tweaked a little bit and is on my list of stuff to prime at the same time as ReZEL. So far so good!

This is turning out wonderfully. I’m pleased with how my first airbrush project is turning out!

I’m also done painting ReZEL’s white parts and am trying to find time to start priming the outer armor parts.

I think I’m going to tweak the GN drive placement, but this is turning out alright so far too! Should be priming it soon.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Hack apart plastic pipes, replace with snake chain, profit.

I’ll have to use putty to close up the middlemost part but the front and back ends close flush.

That blade won’t be the same by the time I’m finished.

Moving along.

On an impulse (and because I’m a sucker for sales), I’ve wound up building the MG V-Dash alongside my MG ReZEL. I have to say that this kit has proven to be amazing so far, then again I haven’t actually built much of the Gundam. I’m enjoying it every step of the way, along with the ReZEL (which I already have the frame finished for and am now trying to find time to do my painting and aftermarket part fitting).

Half finished core booster and skirts

The rest of the parts prepped for painting

So far the airbrushing process has been going smoothly aside from a few hiccups, which are as follows:

Too high PSI (30!!) Corrected down to 8-10 PSI thanks to Sonar.

Spiderwebbing (fixed: thin more) Pooling/splattering (fixed: thin less)- Both of these were when I was trying to figure out how to mix the paint before I realized for mixing larger batches I could use those little cups that come with medicine to keep extra paint at the ready and have more than enough to prime a whole kit. Mr. Color paint bottles are only 10mL and don’t last nearly as long as I’d like (something that probably has to do with mixing batches too large at first) but overall it’s still more efficient than using spraycans. I get the feeling I’ll wrap this up before ReZEL, but only because ReZEL will get more intensive than this (plus I started this first).

ReZEL hasn’t been without it’s own follies, care of my own clumsiness. I had a few parts from my airbrush soaking in thinner to get the paint off…knocked it over and it got on one of the leg parts. SURPRISE, they crumbled in no time. Luckily they were all clean breaks and I’ve superglued them all back together (Should have taken pics, but as soon as they broke I went in to the zone to fix them) and I’m pleased to say that I’ve fixed everything without losing any mobility in the legs. I’m going to have to start working on things in the morning thanks to daylight savings, so maybe things will start moving along faster on this.

Deth…wait.

I bit off more than I can chew with that one. Still working on it but you know what’s hard? Conceptualizing mods and figuring out how to implement them. Basic paintscheme is done, just waiting on the paint to arrive from Hobbywave.

Wait, HobbyWave?

We’ve had a bit of an upgrade and I went and got a slew of new Mr. Color paints to go with it. The downtime is me practicing with this baby and developing better technique so the next kit turns out as good as it should! But the first project I use it for isn’t going to be the MG Deathscythe as there’s something else that has cropped up that’s completely grabbed my attention…

GAF ReZEL Group Build

I don’t need to go in to much detail about this as I’m sure you remember what happened last time I took part in one of these. The kit and a handful (just the start) of aftermarket parts are on the way care of Gundam Guy’s GG Infinite store (based here in the states, out of CA) so by the end of the week you should start seeing posts about that progress on the MG ReZel.

Til next time!

MG Musha Mk II WiP 3 – …What? (and others!)

June 12, 2010 2 comments

Well guys, we’ve started painting the armor parts! We’re a long way from being done still though, there’s a good amount of touch up work and the frame still left to do. You can even see how horrible priming the rifle went the first time!

Just like the Gundam Mk-II frame, the Musha Mk-II frame is just as poseable and outstanding. There are a few differences here and there on the legs, arms and torso but nothing that has any impact on the kit’s articulation.

Think you know what’s going on here? Maybe you should think again. The next update for this model will be to show off it’s completed form, so please keep your hands and feet inside the ride until then.

In other news, you know the PG Strike commission that I’ve been working on?

Base build: done, aside from a little fine tuning. I think I’m going to make the feet black instead of red and maybe adding some white to the torso. I’ve heard suggestions of unifying the red to all be the same color, but to be honest I’m kind of partial to the two tones of red like I am the two tones of white, it breaks the areas up a little bit. Still not done with the weapons, Aile pack, or decals. Hopefully within the month I’ll be getting that stuff so I can get back to work on this little diddy. I really like how it’s turning out so far, as does the person it’s for.

I also picked up this little guy at Colossalcon9 on a whim and built it in the same night. I love this little bugger and you can bet I’ll be giving him a hell of a paintjob and two more buddies to pose with once I’m a little more free up on my time and money. I highly recommend this thing though.

A friend of mine finished his first MG after a rather harsh run-in with the old Gouf Custom MG, and the end result was much better this time around. We’ve got big things planned for this, but for now it’s a good first project. But we’ll end on something that’s bound to be good for a laugh or two…

All glory to the ReZELtank!
