I’ve been thinking of something to do, other than simply building kits. And among a myriad of ideas came one that I thought was all too awesome. Switch the colors of the MS-06 Zaku II and the RX-78-2 Gundam. A very ambitious project considering the amount of painting involved. As much as what Lupes is working on this very minute. My first step was to set out and find 3d models of both suits. Google SketchUp delivered on both fronts and I set about repainting them part by part. Pics contained under the cut.
After a long running love of Gundam and other Giant Robots I got excited about the idea of being involved with Gunpla when I was introduced to Lupes about a month ago. His already bolstering collection had enthralled and excited me. I had pieced together a couple non-grade kits in my childhood; Wing Zero, Epyon, and Deathscythe Hell Custom. All very weak kits with little appeal now, but then I was in love. A love I didn’t feel again until I gazed upon this holy fortification, a Dark Tower of mobile suits.
Finally got around to finishing off the weapons about an hour ago and snapping some pictures (along with the Hyaku-Shiki). More after the jump.
I finished the body and got the majority of the decals/stickers I want to put on applied but as of yet haven’t bothered to construct his weapons.
Planning on taking my time on this one since I think I’ll be getting some topcoat and giving it a go (currently looking at this kind, but what’s the difference because that and this? And what about this other stuff?) Please give me some feedback on topcoats that haven’t ruined your models. I was going to paint it to hide the clipmarks and swirl but couldn’t find any particluar sets that were exactly the right colors.
