Photodump: RX-0/A Unicorn ASSAULT Gundam

Old project, made back in april-may. This model took me about a month to complete due to the fact I hand painted everything on this suit. It was the first time going to such lengths with hand painting (the most I had done before that was a OYW Gundam, which didn’t get such an extensive job done) so there are a few flaws with this kit but things are rarely perfect anyway. Anyway, hit the jump for the pictures!

RX-0 Unicorn ASSAULT Gundam
Unit type: Full psychoframe assault use gundam
Head height: 19.7 meters (21.7 meters with horn)
Weight: 23.7 metric tons
Armor: gundarium alloy
Operating system: NT-D
Armament: Beam magnum x1, hyper bazooka x1, beam saber x4, beam gatling x4
Pilot: ????

Fielded in UC0098, the Unicorn series saw one more unit developed by AE for a Federation group given the task of cracking down on Neo Zeon remnants and handling extremely dangerous missions. Designed to quickly obliterate enemy forces rapidly, the Unicorn Assault was outfitted with the same weapons as the original Unicorn with the addition of four high-output beam gatlings. Not satisfied with the way NT-D mode behaved in the original Unicorn, the AE technicians discovered a way to lock the system in NT-D mode, resulting in a dramatic boost across the board from a technical standpoint. The main drawback to this is of course, increased stress on the mobile suit and pilot in addition to a shorter operational time but these are far outweighed by the fact that the increases are a massive bonus for the suit.

The finished Gundam was given a low-visibility grey anti-beam coating with the intention of giving it the element of surprise in it’s attacks, in which there were to be no witnesses or survivors.

wow! awesome work! the ‘stealth’ paint job looks great! Those gattling guns look familiar.. are they from the heavy-arms gundam?

They’re from the special edition of volume 4 of the Unicorn novel, but I did have a Heavyarms theme in mind when I set out on this project since it was one of my favorites from Gundam W. 🙂

The paint looks really good. When you say handpainted do you mean with a brush? If so, very impressive! The unicorn is another MG I need to get my hands on.

It’s a nice bit of gear this one. Kind of wants something to break up the uniformity of the colour a bit imo. Would look quite nice opposite your Sinanju.

I like the back ground story you gave for this kit. Being dark grey and black, kinda reminds me of a covert ops type gundam 😀 And good job on the hand painting ^^. What kind of paint did you use for the paint job?

Just spotted this guy over at figurefm. Nice one. I really like the armed to the teeth shots. You could really benefit from using a mirror to reflect light onto the gundam’s face for your pics. Try it, you’ll be surprised.
