and get right to the meat of things.
The RG GP-01 Zephyranthes is coming along really smoothly- the rest of the white parts have been primed and after that there’s some grays to paint up and then it’ll be finished! It’s a nice change of place as a simple recolor instead of something that requires a lot of time and money to be put in to it. I’m also working on the MG Banshee ver. Ka but as per the rules of hobbylink.tv’s contest I’m unable to post the WIP stuff here- you can see the updates here though. I’ll be working on the MG Full Armor Unicorn alongside it though, and I’ll make an update with pictures proper and you can just pretend it’s the Final Battle Banshee.
I finally got myself together and calibrated my camera, as well as changing some settings to get some cleaner pictures. This means we’ll be getting back to figure reviews in addition to being able to photoshoot models properly once they’re done. Of course, all of my other hobbies have kind of taken a slight back seat to Final Fantasy 14 but I’ll try to grind out these models with my time in the morning instead of pushing onwards to 50.
Sorry for the radio silence, everyone. On the tail of finishing my RG Destiny, I’ve slowed somewhat while kicking in to the next project. I have been working on quite a few things but haven’t had the energy to paint lately. I’ve been prepping a lot of kits though and there’s a lot more stuff on the way at the end of this month- the RG GP-01s (which I’ll be working on right away), the MG Gundam 3.0 (work on that will start once I get the expansion set for it- undecided on the colors for now), the MG Banshee ver. OVA with a Final Battle Banshee behind it in September. In non-Gundam kits there’s also the new VF_1A/S with Striker pack with the August order and the Roy Focker version tagging along in September.
But since I generally try to make sure each post has a good amount of content, here’s some WIP stuff that I’ve been grinding out.
The RG Karaba Zeta is just as fantastic as the regular release, and I can’t wait to have it done and leading the charge with the other two Zeta Gundam RGs that I did a few months back. Did I mention that I kind of came in to two more of them, bringing my total to 5 of these? Regular Kamille colors for one and I’m thinking a ‘Unicorn Gundam’ styled colorscheme for the other.
I’ve got 2 of the 4 Jestas prepped armor wise, though there’s still a lot of customization work to be done. I know I’m making slow progress on these but it’s to avoid burning out due to the fact that it’s the same thing four times over. I’ll probably be purchasing a second Full Armor Unicorn Gundam to pilfer the weapons from as well as another project that is still in the planning stages.
The RG Destiny has gotten a bit hung up in limbo. I’m a bit concerned about doing a panel line wash for fear of ruining the kit due to the different brands of paint (I use Alclad II klear koat gloss for clear coats and generally use Mr. Color paints- which have not always played nicely with the clear coat) but let’s be honest- the kit needs panel lining of some kind. I’ve asked people before and completely forgotten their suggestions as to what they use for clear coats and panel line washes so if any reads are still out there and can give me their own suggestions for brands and kinds of paint I would really appreciated it.
There are a few other things that I’m planning on working on, but they’re all very much still in the concept stages. Most of them are revisiting old projects and giving them some more love so it won’t be anything you haven’t seen before- just more of the same but better.
Did the last of this today, now it just needs a red panel line wash to make all the RG detail pop like it should!
Changing the wings from pink to red didn’t work out like I had hoped but I managed to work with it enough to the point that I’m okay with how they look. A few touchups to do too from where paint chipped while I was putting things together but that’s nothing new or major! With the build on this wrapping up I’m going to get back to finishing my RG Karaba Zeta Gundam and I have a feeling by the time I’m finished with that it’ll be time to get to work on the RG GP-01 kits. I’m planning on using colors you don’t see on gundams all that often so hopefully that will give the two of them a unique look. More or that once they get here and I can start plotting though.
Entering the home stretch for this thing.
The main thing that’s left to do aside from the arm armor is a red panel line wash (hopefully, as I’ve never done one before and don’t want to screw this up) and coloring all of the clear pink beam parts to clear red instead, including the wings of light.
The RG Destiny (at least, my build of it) really doesn’t like to stand up on it’s own even after tightening the leg/hip joints with super glue so I’m doubley glad that I bought the Wings of Light and have an action base for it now. I think I’ll manage to get this in just under the wire before I go back to work but if not it won’t be long after. Now to get some new bulbs and fiddle with my lightbox setup so I can photoshoot this bad boy…
Let’s try to have a few more updates in June than we did in July. There’s a lot of cool stuff coming out that I have ordered on top of having a few projects well in the wroks so there’s no reason to have a shortage of activity around here.
The frames for all 4 Jestas are done but aside from the one on the far left these are on hold because of how much money finishing them is going to cost. I still plan on getting the armor painted once I get all the parts prepped but the actual customization of these is going to take a little bit of time to get to. Sorry folks!
(I’ve since fixed the chipped bits on the wings)
The RG Destiny has been my pet project over this vacation and I’ve finally hit the point where the rest of the build should go very quickly now that all of the large parts and all of the colored parts have been primed and painted white. If it’s one thing I detest doing, it’s painting red and yellow parts white. Still, the results are looking good and this kit will only pop more once I get a little bit further along on it and everyone can see the direction I’m going with this build.
Things I’ve preordered that you’ll be seeing here eventually:
- 1/72 VF-1A/S Valkyrie (Hikaru Ichijo) w/ Strike parts set
- 1/144 RG GP-01 Gundam Zephyranthes and GP-01/FB Full Burnen
- MG RX-78-2 3.0
- MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee
- 1/72 VF-1S Valkyrie (Roy Fokker) w/ Strike parts set
There’s also a slew of figures that I’ve yet to take pictures of but I’ll just get to those when I get to them since listing all of them would take forever and a day. I’ll work on making progress on them though! Let’s have July be a good month for blogging!
Fellow blogger Gundam Beginner recently surpassed 100,000 hits on his very excellent blog and to celebrate he’s having a contest! I am going to copy and paste the details directly from his site since yours truly has been asked to judge! It’s taken me a little bit to get to making this post because I’m been very busy with work and trying to get this furnished at my new place which means gunpla has taken a bit of a back seat to those boring adult/real life matters.
In the interest of saving time I’m going to copy and paste the rules from GB’s blog and hope the formatting sticks:

Of course at this point entry is now closed and a lot of the builders have submitted WIP pictures of their weathered builds. Luckily, GB is doing an excellent job keeping track of everyone’s progress and you can see all of the entries as well as get links to their blogs to watch how things come together by checking out this post. Good luck to everyone entering! I’ve got my eye on a few builders whom I have some high expectations for.
As for my own gunpla stuff, I’ve been back at the grind at work and really making sure that I can get enough sleep so I’m not wandering around in an exhausted haze but I have managed to get some more work done on at least one MG Jesta-
There is still a long way to go with this. The AA BS has a spot of empty space that I need to fill in behind it but aside from that it worked out very well (it even swings over the hand without any trouble!) whereas the VN is still a total toss up. I’ve adjusted the angle they’re at since taking these pictures and it makes them look a little more natural but given the way they’re mounted here versus how they mount to the banshee is causing a lot of issues. As it stands (I may just ditch the beam saber on this Jesta and give it the carbine ammo arm from one of the other 4 to fix this) I can’t mount the VN any other way without losing access to the beam saber which for now I’d like to try to keep. It also doesn’t help the bulk of the VN kind of messes with the suit’s silhouette since that arm has to be out farther to accommodate the weapon. Who knows, I ‘ll figure something out. I have been lucky so far in matters like that so I assume the trend will continue. THe frame for Jesta #2 has been built as well and I’ve started to plan out how I’m going to stick the gear it has on it (six beam gatling guns and two shields), while Jestas three and four have just arrived and are currently sitting in their boxes untouched.
I’ve also gone through and done some prepping on other projects, mainly cutting parts out and getting them in their baggies before painting. So far I’ve organized the parts on the Full Armor Unicorn and started cutting things out on the OVA Unicorn, as well as the RG Desinty that I won from HLJ for the Nu ver. Ka group build. When I -do- finally manage to get free time and have the energy to get to work on these things you can bet that things will come together pretty quickly. While the Jestas and Unicorns are pretty involved builds the Destiny is just going to be something nice and simple. I’ll be sure to be on the way with pictures of the RG Destiny soon (it’s really looking like a great kit- I can’t wait to get my wings of light in for it!) since it’s such a short build so keep your eyes peeled for updates with that.
